My treasures neigh in the night …

Lets begin.

“My treasures do not clink together or glitter; They gleam in the sun and neigh in the night.”

Anyone who knows horses, loves horses or has horses of their own, will somehow I am sure, relate to this lovely quote. It shows with such honesty how important animals can be to us. And I humbly agree with it. Horses are a treasure to cherish. A creature of flight, that welcomes care and attention from us humans and although bigger and more powerful than us, they choose to respect our commands, seek safety and protection and let us sit on their backs performing tasks that require concentration and partnership. They really are something quite special.

However, despite all this – I believe that they actually offer a quality that is far deeper than just obedience and good will to do as we ask…

I believe and have witnessed their gentle ability to offer us peace of mind and a sense of calm – when our thoughts are entirely preoccupied or we are overwhelmed – simply being around horses will almost instantly lift any clouds hanging over us, providing us with clarity and perspective whilst easing fears and tension.

Although it may sound quite unbelievable – these beautiful creatures continue to give to us that inner tranquility we often search for as we muddle through our lives.

It is this inner tranquility which can be the start of the healing process – and we can let go of any worries, and insecurities that may be holding on tight to us.

I am someone fraught with an internal dialogue of fears – yet being around my horses allows a peace to sweep over me. Self doubt is replaced with confidence – anxiety replaced with faith – and fear replaced by courage. I hope to explore how and why this happens with horses and animals, and how this powerful connection with them can really help build our self esteem, and foster an ability to cope and handle life’s challenges.

My first chapter will involve ‘being at one with horses’ but for now here are some lovely quotes to show how horses and ponies have always been a source of inspiration …

‘ There is something about the outside of a horse, that is good for the inside of a man’

Winston Churchill

‘ The Wind of heaven is that which blows between a horses ears ‘

Arabian proverb

‘Some of my best friends, never say a word to me…my horse’

‘An animals eyes have the power to speak a great language’

Martin Buber

‘Let a horse whisper in your ear, and breathe in your heart. You will never be the same’
